Where to stay for Ijen
Sleep close to the pickup, wake for the crater
Ijen night tours pick up from hotels in and around Banyuwangi, so that is where you sleep. Stay in town for restaurants, by the Ketapang ferry if you are coming from or going to Bali, or in Licin on the road up for the shortest drive to the gate.

Banyuwangi town

By the Ketapang ferry
Ketapang is 10 km north of the town centre, with the station about 200 m from the harbour. Manyar Hotel is right at the ferry terminal, and Ketapang Indah Hotel has a pool and waterfront cottages about 7 minutes from the ferry. It is the base if you arrive from Bali late. See rooms near Ketapang.
Licin, on the road up
Licin district holds Tamansari village, the park’s Banyuwangi side. Osing Vacation, in Dusun Glondok, is a guesthouse between town and the crater, about 60 minutes from the ferry, and arranges tours and car rental. See rooms in Licin.
Bondowoso, the west side
The park’s other half is Kalianyar village in Ijen district, Bondowoso. The road from Bondowoso is 64 km to Paltuding, and the DAMRI shuttle runs this way. The 3-day Bromo and Ijen trip uses a 3-star hotel in Bondowoso. See rooms in Bondowoso.

Where should I stay for Ijen?
In Banyuwangi, where night tours pick up. Licin is on the road up to the crater; Ketapang is next to the ferry and the train station.
Is there a hotel at the Ijen crater?
The park tariff lists only a camping charge at Ijen, Rp 5,000 per person per day. Rooms are in Banyuwangi, Licin and the other towns and villages below the crater.
Should I stay in Banyuwangi or Bondowoso?
Banyuwangi if you are coming from Bali or booking a Banyuwangi night hike. Bondowoso is on the west side, where the 3-day Tumpak Sewu, Bromo and Ijen tour spends its night near Ijen.
Can I stay near the Ketapang ferry?
Yes. Manyar Hotel is right at the ferry terminal, and Ketapang Indah Hotel, with a pool, is about 7 minutes from the ferry.
