- Coming from Yogyakarta. The 3-day trips from Yogyakarta include the train and end in Bali. The cheaper one, from $116, has the lowest rating of the set at 4.4.
- Starting in Surabaya or Malang. The 2-day trips are the shortest. The Probolinggo option includes both park tickets, a gas mask, goggles and the Ijen health certificate.

The Ijen half
Combos reach Ijen from the Bondowoso side or from Banyuwangi. The national tourism site describes the Bondowoso approach as 64 km, with a steep, broken last stretch to Paltuding where a 4WD car is advised. Either way you start at the Paltuding gate, which opens at 02:00 WIB. From there it is about 3 km to the rim and the blue fire.
Rules that still apply
The Ijen rules are the same on a combo: a health certificate from the last 3 days and a mask. See the health rules and the closure days, since a combo that lands on a clean-up Friday has to skip the crater.
